TALLINN FROM ABOVE

Oleviste church tower
Once upon a time this 13th-century church was the tallest building in the world. Nowadays its smaller, 124-metre steeple still dwarfs most of Tallinn’s buildings and remains an important symbol of the town. In summertime it is highly recommended to make an effort and climb the steps up to the tower.  Yes, climbing, no lift was built in 13th century! After a vigorous climb to the top of the stone portion of the tower enjoy the magnificent panorama view over the Old Town, the port and the sea.
Where is it: Tallinn Old Town, Lai street 50
Open: 1.04-31.10 Mon-Sun 10-18
Price: 30EEK

Town Hall  Tower
In summer, you can climb the tower’s long, spiral staircase to the top for some truly amazing views of Old Town and the city centre. To reach the belfry at the height of 34 meters you have to take 115 steps on the caracole. The steps are steep and high.  But the view makes the effort well worthy.
Where is it: Town Hall Square, in the heart of Tallinn Old Town. The entrance is next to café "Tristan & Isolde".
Open:  1 May - 31 Aug every day 11 –18. Closed on national holidays: 23 June and 24 June, 20 August
Price: 45 EEK

Kohtu and Patkuli view platforms
There are four locations on Toompea Hill which offer great views and secluded hideaways for your pleasure. We recommend the Kohtu and Patkuli platforms. From here, sweeping views of the town, its red-tiled roofs, its towers, its walls and all of its charm open up. Get your camera ready!
Where is it: in the end of Kohtu street (Kohtu) and Kohtuotsa (Patkuli)

Lounge 24
If you are not so into climbing, take the elevator to  Lounge 24  in Radisson Blu- a stunning roof top bar with its open air terrace and marvellous view of the city and the sea.  Lounge 24 is on the 24th floor of the hotel, 90 metres from street level. Open to everyone.
Where is it: Rävala pst 3, Radisson Blue hotel, in Tallinn Center

Kiek In De Kök
This massive, medieval defence tower on the slopes of Toompea hill was oddly dubbed Kiek in de Kök (literally, “peep into the kitchen”) because from here the soldiers could peer into the kitchens of the houses below. The tower now appropriately houses a museum that traces the development of the town and its military history from the 13th to the 18th centuries. Lower floors are used for temporary photographic art exhibitions.

St. Nicholas Church

Saints, dancing skeletons and silver – not to mention the occasional organ concert – are the main attractions at this imposing, 13th-century church. It was destroyed by World War II bombs. The most precious art treasures survived merely thanks to their timely evacuation from the church. Since its restoration St. Nicholas' has functioned as a museum specializing in works of religious art, most famously Bernt Notke's beautiful but spooky painting Danse Macabre (Dance with Death). The building's acoustics also make it a prime concert venue, with organ or choir performances held there most weekends.

Top 5 strange food that locals love

Kohupiim (curd cheese, farmers cheese) - is a fresh cheese of East European origin. We eat it for breakfast, as dessert or make a real delicious cakes with it. Try it's small version called "kohuke", you can find big variety of those in every food store and super market.

Verivorst (blood sausage) - this is Estonian national dish.Cook some barley and fry up small cut up pieces of salt pork and then mix that with blood. This mixture then gets poured into the casings. It's not real Christmas for us, Estonians .. unless we eat blood sausage served with cranberry jam..mm.. yummi!

Hapukapsad (sour kraut)
- Another delicious Christmas dish that we just love. It's finely shredded cabbage that has been fermented by various lactid acid bacteria.

Sult - ad cheese is not a cheese but a meat jelly made with pieces from the head of a calf or pig inaspic. It is usually eaten cold or at room temperature as a luncheon meat. Compared to other ''Sults'' Estonian ''Sult'' is usually less seasoned and made from higher quality meat. Sometimes carrots or greens are added.

Kartulisalat (potato salad) - that dish is made of boiled potatoes + we usually add other vegetables such as boiled carrots, green peas, gherkins also boiled eggs, apples and fried meat or some wieners. (all the food are hashed and mixed) .. For sour we use mayonnaise mixed with sour cream and some flavors..

A classic onion-domed 19th-century Russian Orthodox church that has become a touristy symbol of the city, much to the annoyance of nationalist types who regard it as a symbol of oppression. 4. Valli baar

One of a kind, in Tallinn at least, Valli Baar is a genuine throwback to times now gone having allegedly not changed significantly since opening 40 years ago. The city council certainly seem convinced by this story as they have recently made Valli Baar a protected site so it won't go the way of all the other survivors from that era in being refurbished and modernised.

The place itself couldn't be simpler- a rectangular room with a rectangular bar in the middle, an entrance in one corner, toilets in another and usually and accordion player in a third. Choose your drink, get it and then enjoy! Do not forget to order a drink called ''millimallikas'' heeheeee... :)
Location: Müürivahe 14, Old Town
Opening hours: Mon-Thurs 12:00-21:00, Fri - Sat 12:00 - 02:00 (in winter) .... Mon - Thurs 12:00 - 00:00, Fri - Sat 12:00 - 02:00, Sun 12:00 - 19:00 ( In summer)

5. Beer House

Beer House is the one and only restaurant in Estonia, which brews its own beer, 7 sorts, at its own micro-brewery. Recipes of our frothy drinks date back to the XVI century but the beers have won prizes at several modern beer festivals. It's a really cool place.. just order some beer and listen to Estonian beer songs.. the atmosphere is also amazing :) ..

Location: Dunkri street 5, just few steps from the Town Hall Square
Opening hours: Mon - Thurs 10:00 - 00:00, Fri - Sun 10.00 - 02:00
